in 1866, @ request of soldiers memorial society, of boston, massachusetts, , under auspices of american unitarian association, went wilmington, north carolina, teacher of poor white children. position @ first trying one, stranger , northerner. opened school on 9 january 1867, 3 children, in humble building. within week, 67 pupils enrolled, , 2 additional teachers engaged her, and, number of pupils rapidly increased, new schools opened, hemenway, pioneer , normal, , corps of teachers increased accordingly. within few months, citizens co-operated trustees of peabody fund , other benefactors in erecting needed buildings , forwarding work started bradley. on 13 november 1871, cornerstone of tileston normal school laid, , opened in october, 1872. building gift of mary tileston hemenway, had been interested in bradley s work beginning, , appreciation of importance found expression in annual contribution of us$5,000 toward support of tileston normal school, opening in 1872 close in 1891. failing health led miss bradley resign position in 1891. in all, bradley spent on 30 years establishing free schools in wilmington.

bradley s religious affiliation unitarian. died in january 1904. buried @ oakdale cemetery in wilmington, north carolina.
