in norwegian parliamentary elections, socialist left party holds position seventh-largest party in norway, behind labour party, conservatives, progress party, christian democrats, centre party, , liberals. popularity declined levels achieved socialist electoral league. seat count rose peak after 2001 parliamentary election; election marked socialist left s largest voter count, 12.5% of national vote.


when socialist electoral league founded in 1970s, party won voters labour party, ruled majority government. speculation said labour party had lost 100,000 votes electoral league. socialist left party gained 16 seats in parliament. after unification process finished, party s voter base collapsed , earned 4.2% of national vote in 1977 parliamentary election, , earned 2 seats in parliament. after election, party won new voters, , in 1989 parliamentary election, gathered 10.1% of national vote. after election, party lost voters again, , after 1997 election, party mustered 9 representatives in parliament.


after having many described bad election in 2001, norwegian labour party lost many of voters socialist left, socialist left increasing 6% 12.5% of national vote, again becoming fourth largest party in country. however, growth did not last long. in 2005 election, party gathered 8.8% of vote; further decreased in 2009 election, when party gathered 6.2% of vote; , again in 2013 election, when party gathered 4.1%, 1,600 votes away falling under election threshold.
