as internal jugular large, central , relatively superficial, used place central venous lines. such line may inserted several reasons, such accurately measure central venous pressure or administer fluids when line in peripheral vein unsuitable (such during resuscitation when peripheral veins hard locate). because internal jugular varies in location, easier find other veins. however, when line inserted jugular missed , other structures such carotid artery, lung or vagus nerve (cn x) punctured, , damage caused these structures.
