the sixth bridge opened on 22 july 2013. public inquiry rejected aspects of original plan approval of funding arrangements confirmed on 29 december 2010. after extensive preparatory work in 2011, main construction works began on 9 january 2012, , building completed in july 2013. bridge replaced 2 extant bridges (4th , 5th), remained in use during construction. new £32.4 million bridge has no piers in river, opening views along river , improving navigation boats. constructor completed removal of old bridges in november 2013 , set complete surrounding landscaping works in august 2014.


the bridge used on unsigned map-marked cyclists variation of thames path bypassing on-request shepperton weybridge ferry, runs during main hours of daytime, path recombines @ chertsey bridge, takes northern towpath below hampton court bridge.


the bridge, tied arch bridge, provides first single-span bridge heading thames. next single-span bridges thames pair of co-functional old , new runnymede bridges between surrey , berkshire.
