in 1981 study commissioned united states air force systems command select microcomputer theater air control system (tacs). field of 149 microcomputers final technical report concluded “the equipment offered cromemco responsive general selection criteria.” in years following study united states air force became major customer cromemco computers.


cromemco developed special version of cs-200 computer (called cs-250) meet requirements of air force s mission support system (mss). cs-250 had removable hard disk based on patented cromemco technology. united states air force deployed 600 cromemco systems 1985 1996 mission support systems f-15, f-16, , f-111 aircraft. these systems received first war time use in operation desert storm in 1991.


cromemco systems used in commercial applications, including @ chicago mercantile exchange (cme) bank of 60 cromemco z-2 systems used process trades. each z-2 system populated cromemco octart interface cards, each card supporting 8 terminals on trading floor. ten years, 1982 1992, trades @ cme processed these systems. in 1992 cromemco systems replaced ibm ps/2 computers.


cromemco computers first microcomputer systems distributed in china. in 1985 newsweek reported on 10,000 cromemco computer systems had been sold chinese universities.


cromemco systems broadly adopted u.s. television stations generating weather , art graphics, using software developed colorgraphics weather systems. 1986 more 80 percent of major-market television stations in u.s. used cromemco systems produce news , weather graphics.
