in june 2011 editorial in guardian, khalil criticized support international monetary fund (imf), included $3 billion loan. said, many people, myself included, unhappy news , impact such loan have on deepening country s debt , mounting debt servicing burden. khalil equated bank neoliberal[ism] , imperialism , , politics of mubarak regime. blamed such policies economic stagnation, deterioration, , growing inequality under mubarak. khalil cited imf ex-employee , mubarak regime finance minister youssef boutros-ghali, sentenced prison corruption. said, believe country s future lies not same highly paid, unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats of imf, nor sacred indicators of budget deficits , market economics. our future lies new home-grown economics caters majority of egyptians, schools children educated, hospitals receive healthcare, , jobs guarantee them decent , honourable living.


in july 2011, khalil criticized proposed increase in egypt s minimum wage insufficiently large. khalil said new wage, while improvement represented example of priority of government lean on poor , working majority in order protect interests of businessmen , established elite.


khalil supported proposed budget s decreasing of deficit criticized means said put more burden on workers , pensioners rather raising capital gains taxes. khalil said, need continue mass demonstrations pressure government, [because] won’t stop budget , decision on minimum wage, continue leaning on workers, on country’s weakest side.


khalil argued in movement reform social rights necessary political rights. said, must not mobilize people, debate , explain why social justice important [egypt]. cannot want democracy, , after you’ll [work to] social justice. no. if in order, you’ll end nothing.
