the river source confluence of oughtershaw beck , green field beck in langstrothdale near beckermonds. flows east , south-east taking flows many small streams, sources shake holes yockenthwaite moor on north bank , horse head moor on south bank. after hubberholme, river flows south past buckden , starbotton , south-east past kettlewell before flowing south again. near conistone gentle waterfalls of scar lash. near grassington, river turns south-east on linton falls. south of appletreewick, river flows south-west short distance until reaches gill beck , returns southward. north of bolton bridge, river narrows , goes on waterfalls in area known strid. river winds south , south-east towards ilkley heads east through otley , collingham. briefly flows north wetherby before turning south , south-east past ulleskelf confluence river ouse.
