the green peafowl forest bird nests on ground laying 3 6 eggs.


it has been believed green peafowl polygynous, unlike indian peafowl, males solitary , not display in leks. instead solitary males highly territorial , form harems no pair bonds.


however, theory male polygynous conflicts observations in captivity; pairs left alone no human interaction have been observed monogamous. close similarity between both sexes suggests different breeding system in contrast of indian peafowl. thus, authors have suggested harems seen in field juvenile birds , males not promiscuous.


they spend time on or near ground in tall grasses , sedges. family units roost in trees @ height of 10–15 m (33–49 ft). diet consists of fruits, invertebrates, reptiles, frogs , rodents. other member of genus, green peafowl can hunt venomous snakes. ticks , termites, flower petals, buds leaves , berries favorite foods of adult peafowl.
