in september 2010, cambridge journals online , english profile programme launched first volume of online english profile journal. articles in english profile journal freely available all, , future articles published on incremental basis. english profile journal publish research emerging out of english profile programme. first volume contains introduction editors, in set out journal’s mission statement, series of papers on english profile research presented @ february 2009 english profile seminar, , report professor john trim (council of europe) on february 2010 english profile seminar.

the english profile studies series jointly produced cambridge english language assessment , cambridge university press. series publishes volumes focusing on important developments related comprehensive objectives of english profile programme. titles in series designed of interest wide range of users interested in english language, language learning , linguistics; including teachers, curriculum designers , educational policy-makers, language test developers, academic lecturers , researchers. first in series of publications entitled criterial features in l2 english. volume hawkins , filipovic introduces concept of criteriality, i.e. properties of learner language characteristic , indicative of l2 proficiency @ each level of common european framework of reference languages (cefr). second volume in series, language functions revisited antony green, introduces theoretical , empirical bases defining english language learning levels in functional ‘can-do’ terms.


cambridge english profile corpus (in development)

the cambridge english profile corpus (cepc) corpus of learner english produced students worldwide, , being built cambridge university press , cambridge english language assessment, in collaboration network of participating educational establishments across world. these establishments include schools, universities, , private language schools, along research centres, government bodies (such ministries of education) , individual education professionals.


the cepc aims provide 10 million words of data, covering both spoken , written language. both general english , english specific purposes included. written data being collected via online english profile data collection portal. corpus covers common european framework of reference languages (cefr) levels a1-c2, , attempts maintain balance across number of variables, including proficiency level, first language, , educational context.


the cepc allows number of filtering options:


• educational contexts (e.g. primary or secondary, monolingual or bilingual)


• task type e.g. letter, email, report, essay (written data)


• type of interaction e.g. casual conversation, formal presentation, oral exam, classroom discourse, role play etc. (spoken data)

the cepc allow development of innovative , unique methodology describing english language. methodology, based on corpus research, empirical , non-‘linguacentric’; is, not solely concerned english spoken native speakers.
