following reestablishment, nakuma academic community has attempted restore traditions of predecessor. however, during nakuma s reincarnation, several new traditions have been founded. every year on 15 october school celebrates academy day , naukma students wash monument of noted kyiv-mohyla alumnus philosopher hryhorii skovoroda. action called clean skovoroda. monument of skovoroda in front of university decorated mortarboard during annual graduation ceremony held on 28 june. tradition during ceremony carry university turtle named alma around new graduates make wishes while touching shell. student tradition connecting old kyiv-mohyla academy , naukma theatrical performances called verteps. verteps possibly introduced students of old academy. performed during different festive events. lastly, tradition open each academic year welcome event new students, followed lecture renowned scientist, given honorary professorship @ university. ceremony of new naukma student initiation includes taking traditional student oath. during first term @ naukma, students of faculties introduce academic community during acquaintance ball.
