the castle organized around high circular keep called tower of soubise or white tower registered historical monument , preserved. next square brown tower called joviac of wall remains. located on top of rocky outcrop overlooking rhône , mouth of valley of auzon. today few walls remain indicate presence of castle , walls of keep. keep appears saracen tower approximately 20 metres high , 6.1 metres in diameter. granite rubble walls 180 centimetres thick @ first level. keep may date first third of 13th century. 2 towers mark presence of co-lordship. integral part of defence system of town, guarded entrance valley. possible site played role during ancient rome , romans have used arras aerarium (place safeguard military treasure). possession of tower , chateau gave owners right levy tolls. french revolution abolished tolls removed interest in building , accelerated erosion.

the church founded father de pons d eyras. in 987 returned parish abbey of saint-bernard of romans, passed prior of island of saint-vallier, , later canons of saint-ruff (diocese of vienne) , archpriests of saint-félicien. before french revolution, until 1790, church , priory house of arras formed whole adjoining lands: 6400 m2 of vines, 1.7 hectares of land, , 7000 m2 of outcropping rocks.


in 1833 bell tower rebuilt stone guerrys quarry located 1 kilometre away on old area of ozon. crussol molasse added stone. there followed many stages of restoration: in 1839 roof restored once, second time in 1900 rest of frame, third time in 1988. during years 1992 , 1993 interior restored tiles, ceilings , paintings. walls of old cemetery destroyed accommodate square in 1959-1960. patron saint of parish saint-clair. remarkable mulberry tree planted next church.
