reopening

the chinnor , princes risborough railway association formed around august 1989. on 19 may 1991, first train - works train headed 0-4-0 baguley diesel - ran chinnor. began operate passenger trains between chinnor , site of former wainhill halt (about 1 km ne of chinnor) in august 1994. in 1995, route extended 3 km horsenden lane, , thame junction in 1996. on 21 february 2016, railway connected mainline @ princes risborough, services commencing later year running in risborough. while works being undertaken there, service trains not run in princes risborough platform 4.


the railway operates on standard gauge between chinnor , platform 4 @ princes risborough, although services terminate , turn around @ thame junction. of 2017, there no platform @ thame junction, , work underway construct platform @ princes risborough.


princes risborough extension

following discussions network rail, extension of mile (1.5 km) princes risborough main line railway station in progress, view running princes risborough station. allow passengers connect chiltern railways services on chiltern main line. previously, line reconnected special events allow trains run princes risborough station: in october 2013, line reconnected first 3 weekends railway s haversham & friends celebrations, , first through-train 57 years, rail tour aylesbury via princes risborough, ran on 5 october 2013.


on 21 february 2016, small team of volunteers used road-rail vehicle install track panel in place of network rail buffer stop reinstate physical connection princes risborough; following day, official boundary gates , safety signage installed, making line operational. extension in place, line 4 miles (6.4 km) in length. link used first time visiting locomotive part of gala held on 4/5 june 2016; db cargo class 66 66185 hauled 3-cep 411198 on 0950 chinnor. test run single-car dmu operated on 25 june train running princes risborough s temporary platform 4, followed week later class 17 working , steam-run on 10 july. first full public service carrying vip guests risborough ran on 23 july, hauled d3018 haversham return journey worked gwr 0-6-0pt 5786 (l.92).


a platform has still built @ princes risborough preserved railway and, until work completed, chinnor & princes risborough railway passengers not able join or leave trains @ princes risborough.


future projects

consideration has been given extending line south-west chinnor towards aston rowant near a40, taking total length 6 miles (9.7 km).


a purpose built maintenance , education centre @ chinnor station planned, construction expected commence in 2014.
