matt robinson named starting quarterback jets against cleveland browns hid thumb injury on throwing hand 3 days before game, until swelling forced him acknowledge injury angered walt michaels , team president jim kensil. injury treated , robinson had tape taken off late in game jets leading, brian sipe drive aided roughing passer call against mark gastineau led game-tying don cockroft field goal; forced play in overtime, robinson s thumb swelled again , result sloppy pass intercepted , led game-winning cockroft field goal. michaels seethed, work, plan week, , kid hides injury you. refused play robinson rest of season.


week 2: @ new england patriots

the jets crushed 56–3 in game steve grogan of patriots set club touchdown record stand until tom brady broke in 2007.


week 13: @ seattle seahawks

seahawks cornerback cornell webster blocked punt jets chuck ramsey, leading seattle score in 30–7 seahawks win. following game michaels called out ramsey in front of jets players snarling, can fart farther can kick!
