in march 2007, langevin became co-sponsor of christopher , dana reeve paralysis act, had stated purpose of enhancing , furthering research paralysis , improve rehabilitation , quality of life persons living paralysis , other physical disabilities. bill passed house of representatives not senate. however, in 2009, bill included in omnibus public land management act, co-sponsored langevin, passed both houses of congress , signed law president barack obama.
for presidency in 2008, langevin announced support sen. hillary clinton (d-ny), serving special adviser on issues ranging stem cell research people disabilities.
on july 26, 2010, langevin became first member of congress preside on house of representatives while using wheelchair. house had installed wheelchair lift leading speaker’s rostrum.
