the skelmorlie aisle contains notable monument built local landowner, sir robert montgomerie of skelmorlie castle, seventh laird of skelmorlie burial site himself , wife, dame margaret douglas. aisle added old kirk (church) of largs in 1636, , comprises renaissance canopied tomb above burial-vault entrance. barrel vaulted ceiling of aisle painted 1638 in panels, heraldic emblems , signs of zodiac, etc. mr. stalker. third coffin within tomb said of sir hugh montgomerie of eaglesham, hero of battle of otterburn. can compared other significant tombs, such of cunninghames, earls of glencairn @ kilmaurs in east ayrshire.
