Chronology of the Cannery Gulf of Georgia Cannery

1894 - construction of original l-shaped building; 1 manual canning line.
1897 - east wing built provide additional packing , seasonal living area. 2 additional canning lines added.
1906 - arrival of mechanical butchering machine; west wing (butchering shed) converted net loft/storage. east wing shortened 50 feet (15 m) in 1906 due new dyke , railway tracks along waterfront.
1932 - remains of west wing demolished windstorm.
1940 - roofline raised accommodate additional boiler (boiler house).
1943 - ice house built (in order store fish longer amount of time).
1940-48 - various structural modifications , additions related herring reduction process: vitamin oil shed , dryer shed.
1956 - east wing of original building raised accommodate evaporator. separator room constructed next evaporator room.
1964 - addition of grinding , bagging room off drying shed.
1979 - gulf of georgia reduction plant closed, building used net loft.
1994 - gulf of georgia cannery national historic site of canada opens public.
