lleyton returned wildcard @ french open lost in first round blaž kavčič. after this, hewitt began grass season @ queen s club championships. unfortunately lost in 1st round croatian ivo karlović. lleyton s next tournament 2012 wimbledon championships, defeated in first round 5th seed jo-wilfried tsonga. during match, itf released wild cards 2012 olympics, , hewitt s name in singles list, marking third appearance @ olympic games (2000, 2008 , now). after loss against tsonga, hewitt played doubles @ wimbledon partnering countryman chris guccione, made 3rd round before losing in 4 sets.


after wimbledon, viewing prepare olympics, hewitt granted wild card @ newport. in opening round, defeated canadian vasek pospisil. in 2nd round, won in 3 sets, ousting american tim smyczek. in next match, aussie won against israeli dudi sela. win, hewitt went on semifinal (his first since halle 2010), victorious on american rajeev ram. lost top seeded john isner in final.

playing in olympics, hewitt drawn against sergiy stakhovsky , won. marin Čilić, seeded 13th, awaited in second round , hewitt dispatched croat in 2 sets advance third round. there, met 2nd seed novak djokovic. after losing first set, djokovic overpowered hewitt take final 2 sets , eliminate lleyton tournament. in mixed doubles, , sam stosur reached quarterfinals, lost 2 sets 1 britain s andy murray , laura robson.


beginning american hard court season, hewitt received wc cincinnati masters, won against mikhail youzhny in 1st round before losing viktor troicki in 2nd round. aussie s next tournament open, received wc, completing wild card slam (received wild cards in of 4 grand slams in 2012). in 1st round, lleyton met tobias kamke, winning first match @ flushing meadows since 2009. in 2nd round, hewitt won marathon 5 sets match against gilles müller. in 3rd round, hewitt lost 4th seed , number 5 in world david ferrer, despite having set points in 1st set.
