borah dominant football program in state school s first quarter century, winning southern idaho conference , a.p. writers poll (introduced in 1963) in 15 of first 21 seasons, 2 of first 3 official titles in playoff system. ed troxel, former head coach @ college of idaho, 76–8–2 (.895) in school s first 9 seasons, 8 unofficial state titles , runner-up. after undefeated season in 1966, left become assistant @ university of idaho in moscow , assistant coach delane de pankratz succeeded him head coach next 2 decades.

pankratz first 5 seasons head coach brought 5 more state titles 2 defeats, intra-city rival capital in 1967 , 1971, separated 34 consecutive victories. 1971 team rebounded loss , won 8 straight, final 27–12 victory on thanksgiving on punahou in honolulu finish 11–1. lions went undefeated in 1975, , in 1978, last before playoff system. borah state runner-up in 1972, 1974, , 1976.

in november 1979, eight-team playoff introduced state s largest schools in class a-1 (5a since 2001); borah shut out lewiston 42–0 in semifinals , archrival boise 38–0 in final grab first official a-1 state title in football, , finished record of 11–1.

pankratz head football coach @ borah twenty seasons (1967–86) , compiled record of 186–36 (.838). succeeded wil overgaard in may 1987, head coach @ nearby bishop kelly 3 seasons , graduate of rival capital. had been assistant 6 years under pankratz @ borah (1978–83) , three-year starter @ tackle @ idaho (1974–76) under troxel. overgaard head coach 7 seasons (1987–93), left administrative position in weiser.

darren corpus, borah alumnus class of 1980, hired head coach in 2011. longtime coach @ feeder school west junior high, starting fullback on 1978 , 1979 state champion teams , played college football @ boise state. in first season, led lions first winning season in decade. next year, lions went 7–2 in regular season , tied 2012 sic title. wins lions since 1995 , first state playoff berth since 2001.

basketball

borah won eleventh state title in basketball in 2013, fourth under head coach cary cada. lions won consecutive titles different head coaches in mid-1960s, , 5 titles under kirk williams in 1980s , 1990s.

the boys track team has won 4 consecutive titles on 3 separate occasions, different head coaches: 1960–63 (ed troxel), 1981–84 (rich dickson), , 2004–07 (chester grey). girls team won 4 consecutive titles (2005–08) grey head coach.
