air-sea rescue (asr or a/sr, known sea-air rescue ) coordinated search , rescue (sar) of survivors of emergency water landings , people have survived loss of seagoing vessel or otherwise in peril @ sea. asr can involve wide variety of resources including seaplanes, helicopters, submarines, rescue boats , ships. specialized equipment , techniques have been developed. military , civilian units can perform air-sea rescue.


air-sea rescue operations carried out during war have saved valuable trained , experienced airmen. moreover, knowledge such operations being carried out enhanced morale of combat aircrew faced not expected hostile reaction of enemy possible danger of aircraft malfunction during long overwater flights.
