in foreign policy issues party has opposed military action. against u.s. invasion of afghanistan , against war in iraq. after joining red-green coalition in 2005, party stopped strong opposition 2 wars, , in 2008 party proposed creating new strategy norwegian armed forces located in afghanistan. in 2007, erik solheim ministry of international development visited norwegian troops in afghanistan. policy regarding afghanistan has led unrest within party, notably party s chapter in bergen. 2008, party chapters of hordaland , rogaland criticised kristin halvorsen , government regarding afghanistan policies, , demanded immediate withdrawal october 2009. oslo chapter asked drastic changes in military strategy created nato.


thorbjørn jagland, president of storting, requested government should send more soldiers afghanistan, if nato requested it. socialist left supported war, against sending more soldiers region, , denied access norwegian special forces. main reason norway, along netherlands, had soldiers located in afghanistan [...] in relation population in respective countries, , afghanistan largest military commitment norway has abroad .
