the keshcarrigan bowl considered 1 of finest classic medieval cast bronze cups, or drinking vessel. made of bright-yellow metal, discovered c. 1842 – c. 1850 during building of ulster canal . bowl fine golden bronze 14 centimetres (5.5 in) wide , 1 millimetre (0.039 in) in thickness, being cast or beaten shape before being finished , polished being spun on lathe. neck finished off against internal mould. principal decorative feature of bowl cast bronze zoomorphic handle, following graceful shape of bird-beast head of nondescript appearance influenced flamboyant ornamentation of time, soldered body of vessel @ base , loosely connected vessel neck. ridge @ front of bird-head, shield below, , impression of beak turning-backward, characteristic of male-shelduck.
