coccothrinax genus of fan palms found throughout caribbean , in adjacent parts of southern florida , mexico. species small medium-sized, maximum heights between 5 , 15 metres (17 , 49 ft). 1 of 53 species, c. readii, absent insular caribbean. 2 species, c. argentata , c. barbadensis, widespread, while of others restricted cuba , hispaniola.
