in 1988 brownlie gained first managerial appointment @ cowdenbeath , won promotion scottish second division before departure in 1992.


east stirlingshire

he subsequently joined clyde, worked assistant manager under alex smith, before managing east stirlingshire 1997 until 1998.


arbroath

after spell running youth teams @ raith rovers, brownlie managed arbroath between 2000 , 2003 led club promotion scottish second division , kept them in scottish first division 2 seasons.


he later returned east stirlingshire coach, taking temporary charge of first team in 2008 after resignation of gordon wylde.


his son paul professional footballer.
