at merge route 150 before town line, 5 follows south broad street (the alignment of old hartford , new haven turnpike) city of meriden. south broad street becomes broad street after intersection hall avenue passes eastern part of city, avoiding downtown area. past olive street, road becomes divided wide grassy median. @ north end of divided section, has intersection east main street, main east–west business route through city. 0.7 miles (1.1 km) north of east main street, 5 has interchange i-691 (at exit 8). @ intersection brittania street, road becomes north broad street, climbs on slope meets north end of wilbur cross parkway. northbound roadway overpasses parkway , merges onto right. beginning of 15-mile (24 km) overlap route 15. southbound @ beginning of parkway, 5 signed exit (with no number) main roadway. north broad street continues north merge divided 4-lane arterial road 1.1 miles (1.8 km) berlin town line, road becomes berlin turnpike.
