glenfield station new concourse building in december 2012



glenfield station new multi-storey commuter car park in november 2011


planning approval stage 1 of project received in april 2009. stage involves preliminary work support new line. centred on glenfield station , includes:



a ground-level car park @ seddon park on eastern side of station. construction commenced in may 2009 , completed in october 2009.
a multi-storey car park on western side of station. construction commenced in november 2009 , completed in september 2010.
the northern rail flyover. replaced flat junction between main south line , east hills line grade-separated junction. construction commenced in june 2010 , completed in june 2014.
an upgrade of glenfield station including new overhead concourse replace footbridge, construction of fourth platform , bus interchange. part of work, existing platform 1 changed side turnback through platform. construction commenced in late 2010 , completed in mid-2014.

leppington station entrance in february 2015


stage 2 included extending railway line westward towards leppington. involved:



a rail flyover on south side of glenfield station take new line on main south line , southern sydney freight line.
11.4 kilometres of double track glenfield leppington.
stations , car parks @ edmondson park , leppington.
a new train stabling facility west of leppington capacity 20 8-car trains.

stage 2 received planning approval on 18 november 2010. on 7 december 2010, premier kristina keneally announced contract design , construction of stage 2 had been awarded john holland group.


on 13 september 2014, nsw government announced construction complete, saying line had come in $300 million under budget , year ahead of schedule. line opened 8 february 2015.


associated projects

two associated projects affect new line.


the east hills line s kingsgrove revesby quadruplication rail clearways project opened in april 2013. improved capacity of east hills line allowing separation of express services leppington or macarthur all-stops services revesby.


the auburn stabling project provided additional capacity stable trains.
