the third bridge, built 1863–64, iron girder lattice bridge on stone piers. @ same time, brick viaduct constructed span flood plain south of river. bridge freed of tolls in 1870.


the third bridge damaged during second world war in 1940 leading permanent weight restriction. alleviate fourth temporary bridge constructed , third bridge relegated use cyclists , pedestrians. robbins described in 1953 ungracious structure of iron lattice girders in county history. assisted weight restriction , metal design longer-lasting previous 2 bridges demolished in 1985.
