the area busy nexus electric tramways of sydney until system s closure in late 1950s. until 1990s, railway square had three-platform bus terminal in centre. platforms connected 1 another, opposite sides of lee street , broadway, extension of devonshire street tunnel. tunnel accessible escalator.


the site redeveloped in 1999 incorporate 2 platforms, lifts, cafe , access university of technology. site fitted public artwork created merilyn fairskye, including murals, illuminated wall panels , 4 towers coloured steel ribbons inside, representing 4 elements (air, water, earth , fire). railway square dominated rising glass bus terminal structure, , 4 sculpture light towers. area interchange state transit authority bus routes.
