in november 2004, friesacher tested minardi @ misano circuit in italy, impressing team principal paul stoddart. on 14 february 2005, signed one-year deal race alongside christijan albers, former formula 3000 driver , f1 rookie. itv s martin brundle noted during debut race felt friesacher had never looked potential f1 driver.


in 2005 united states grand prix picked 3 formula 1 championship points despite finishing last; because came sixth out of 6 drivers competed 7 teams pulled out tyre safety reasons.


on 19 july 2005, announced friesacher had been dropped minardi team due failure of personal sponsors pay minardi amounts agreed @ start of season. replaced in lineup robert doornbos, completed rest of season minardi.
