marco engages in constant schadenfreude in karen s anxiety on possibility of con man telling larry of sordid details of prior criminal behavior. introduction of actress judith light in role of karen in late 1977, head writer gordon russell ramps storyline marco , karen s relationship, role of karen becoming jangled bundle of nerves around anthony s marco. arrival of goddaughter of victoria viki lord riley (erika slezak), tina clayton (andrea evans), marco opens brothel while masquerading photography studio. establishing business venture in llanview, marco forces karen (light, onward) become 1 of prostitutes in exchange silence on past dealings. after marco takes clothed photographs of naive, teenaged tina, edits images make them appear if tina posed nude. when marco publishes photos of tina, livid viki confronts nonchalant marco concedes none of viki s accusations.


newspaper publisher viki proceeds pursuing exposé in family newspaper, banner, dane s doings. while investigating marco, viki starts suspect karen of cuckolding former brother-in-law larry in multiple extramarital affairs. growing stressed @ keeping secret of sexual exploits herself, when viki confronted karen suspicions, karen admits affairs , divulges forced prostitution marco viki. simultaneously empathetic karen s plight , livid marco s lurid behaviors, viki proceeded share , publish story of marco s business dealings of husband , editor-in-chief, joe riley (lee patterson). before story published, marco finds murdered corpse of brother, dr. mario corelli (anthony). marco devises plan assume identity of dead brother in effort frame viki apparent murder.


known recurrent bouts multiple personalities (most notably, niki smith ), viki s apparent motive of revenge damaged reputations of dear tina , close friend karen leads llanview police lieutenant ed hall (al freeman, jr.) arrest town heroine. viki later indicted , charged murder of marco, unbeknownst marco had identical twin brother. when viki put on trial murder of marco, llanview district attorney herb callison (anthony call) brings surprise witness dr. mario corelli (marco masquerading dead brother) witness stand. mario presents forged letters of threats viki marco evidence. karen convinces friend , fellow prostitute katrina karr (nancy snyder) true identity of marco s murderer, , katrina directs karen post office box letter killer. upon arrival post office retrieve letter uncovering marco s murderer, letter mysteriously lost , katrina subsequently hit car, resulting in katrina going coma. after month of trial, katrina recovers , testifies karen s extramarital lover, talbot huddleston (byron sanders), marco s murderer, exonerating viki @ eleventh hour.


as 1980s begin, karen raped brad vernon (steve fletcher), husband of younger sister jenny wolek vernon (brynn thayer), , confided in marco (as mario) apparent assault. upon learning of husband s rape of sister, pregnant jenny went premature labor katrina karr in-hospital giving birth own child. marco , karen, friends again, went switching sickly-and-soon-dead body of karen s niece live-born child of katrina (kristine karr) when karen goes visit nursery of newborn children. distraught katrina falls deep depression while elated jenny reveled in being new mother.


emotionally disturbed leading double life, marco (continuing pretend mario) suffers bout of selective amnesia, prompts karen commit marco sanatorium. after being released sanitarium, courts , engages marry banner reporter edwina lewis (margaret klenck). before wedding ceremony can completed, dorian (robin strasser onward) reports llanview police mario corelli marco dane. marco, identity revealed, arrested identity fraud, incarcerated in statesville prison, , edwina proceeded break off engagement. after release prison, though, edwina , marco reconcile , marry.


apparently reformed criminal ways, partners-in-crime marco , karen learns tina s (adoptive) father, ted clayton, attempting swindle lord family fortune viki. 2 devise plan foil ted s plot, chagrin of out of loop edwina, tells secretive marco move out of apartment. marco later shot in confrontation ted, shot dead llanview police commissioner ed hall. storyline reaches dénouement, edwina enacts divorce proceedings marco , switched baby returned katrina karr (nancy snyder) following discovering.


unable sever ties edwina, marco engages in love triangle between ex-wife , new romance , sister of jenny s ex-husband, samantha vernon. edwina , marco remarry breakup , divorce yet again when ambitious edwina leaves llanview in pursuit of career opportunities. after series of other exploits involving viki, echo disavoy (kim zimmer), , clint buchanan (clint ritchie), marco leaves llanview in 1986. returned in 1989, meeting viki s daughter, actress , multiple-personality sufferer megan gordon (jessica tuck), masquerading alter-ego ruby bright . clint, shadowing sick stepdaughter, uncovers marco courting ruby. clint divulges marco ruby figment of megan s personality , 2 collaborated in causing megan reemerge latest bout of mental illness. marco departs llanview in 1990 after serving megan s manager.
