top division

the top division contested between 8 teams april 7 april 14, 2012. event hosted usa hockey in burlington, vermont. new format used top 4 ranked teams placed in group , automatically qualified final round, , played in preliminary round used determine seeding next round. top 2 teams received bye semifinals. meanwhile, next 4 teams played preliminary round in group b. top 2 teams group b joined others final round, while bottom 2 team played best-of-three series, loser being relegated next year.

each teams roster 2012 iihf women s world championship consisted of @ least 15 skaters (forwards, , defencemen) , 2 goaltenders, , @ 20 skaters , 3 goaltenders. 8 participating nations, through confirmation of respective national associations, had submit roster first iihf directorate meeting on 6 april 2012.
