on 1 november 1922, grand national assembly declared ankara government turkish government , abolished sultanate. on 17 november 1922, mehmed vi vahideddin last ottoman sultan departed constantinople aboard british ship hms malaya.
negotiations new peace treaty turkey began @ conference of lausanne on 20 november 1922 , reopened after break on 23 april 1923. led signing of treaty of lausanne on july 24, 1923. under terms of treaty, allied forces started evacuating constantinople on 23 august 1923 , completed task on 23 september 1923 – british italian, , french troops departing pari passu.
the first turkish troops entered constantinople on 6 october 1923 , on 29 october, republic of turkey proclaimed, ankara capital city.
