citation:

maj. loring distinguished himself conspicuous gallantry , intrepidity @ risk of life above , beyond call of duty. while leading flight of 4 f-80 type aircraft on close support mission, maj. loring briefed controller dive-bomb enemy gun positions harassing friendly ground troops. after verifying location of target, maj. loring rolled dive bomb run. throughout run, extremely accurate ground fire directed on aircraft. disregarding accuracy , intensity of ground fire, maj. loring aggressively continued press attack until aircraft hit. @ approximately 4,000 feet, deliberately altered course , aimed diving aircraft @ active gun emplacements concentrated on ridge northwest of briefed target, turned aircraft 45 degrees left, pulled in deliberate, controlled maneuver, , elected sacrifice life diving aircraft directly midst of enemy emplacements. selfless , heroic action destroyed enemy gun emplacement , eliminated dangerous threat united nations ground forces. maj. loring s noble spirit, superlative courage, , conspicuous self-sacrifice in inflicting maximum damage on enemy exemplified valor of highest degree , actions in keeping finest traditions of u.s. air force.
