in 1980s , 1990s, gweedore had thriving factory industry, 20 large companies established producing rubber, carpets, body toning equipment , cleaning agents. however, 2001 of these companies had closed due competition eastern europe. 4,000 jobs lost, , had serious economic , social effect on gweedore , surrounding areas. factory in townland of crolly has been manufacturing porcelain dolls since 1939 under name crolly dolls.


in 2003, estate renamed páirc ghnó ghaoth dobhair (gweedore business park) , gaeltacht body, Údarás na gaeltachta, started campaign try entice businesses gweedore in hope of reviving local economy. scottish company opened call centre on estate, subsequently closed. other businesses include number supermarkets, convenience stores, beauticians, hairdressers, contractors, garages, pharmacists, pubs, cafes, plenty of b&bs , 5 well-established hotels: derrybeg hotel, teach jack , chúirt hotel.
