design

a ski suit can either one-piece, in form of jumpsuit, or two-piece, in form of ski jacket , matching trousers, called salopettes or ski pants. ski suit made wind- , water-resistant or waterproof fabric, , has non-removable liner made of nylon, silk, cotton or taffeta. main function keep person warm while participating in winter sports, nordic (cross-country) or alpine (down-hill) skiing. unisex garment. ski suit meant worn base layer, consists of long johns , warm shirt, designed skiing. ski suits made of gore-tex or similar materials. in form of shell suit, skier adds more or less warm underwear depending on weather. pockets made waterproof, items put in them should stay dry.


one-piece ski suits

a one-piece suit cover whole torso, arms , legs. have 1 or 2 zippers down front of suit, additionally closed flap velcro or buttons, , have belt @ waist. sometimes, suit has built-in suspenders on inside added support. one-piece ski suits made shell layer, skier adding warm underwear of own choice adapted current weather situation. other suits may padded warmth, when intended skiing still not insulated snowmobile suit.


ski jacket

a ski jacket covers arms , torso, waist while other times reaching down on buttocks. can separate item or part of two-piece ski suit matching ski pants.


from introduction of ski jackets in middle late 1950s through 1980s, dominant style ski jacket resemble safari jacket in having similar belt , shirt-like collar. similar jacket, 1 hood, may called parka, anorak, down jacket or winter shell.


ski pants

ski pants, or salopettes, when part of two-piece ski suit, made in same fabric , color corresponding ski jacket. in form of bib-and-brace , jacket worn on it.


race suits

often referred race suits or speed suits, these suits worn professional , junior racers improve speed. made one-piece suits. made of polyurethane (85-90%) , polyester (15-10%), these suits can reduce wind resistance as fifty percent. since wind resistance accounts ninety 5 percent of force stopping skiers going faster, wearing 1 of these suits can potentially give double speed. tight , form hugging , can take while adapt body. olympic athletes can reach on 160 km/h in race suit, while junior racer may struggle past 80 km/h without one. suit costs range $210 beginners suit $1,200 suits worn olympic athletes. ski suits not unisex garments due need skin tight , must sized effective. athletes wear base layer beneath suit, may wear suit on race days, base layer decrease efficiency of suit slightly.
