first generation (1990–1995)

the first generation diamante produced in 3 versions:

four-side window hardtop: four-door hardtop frameless windows solely built in nagoya, japan, , sold in japan , north america. featured advanced electronic aids such four-wheel steering (4ws).
six-side window sedan: more conventional variant built , introduced in japan 5 months after diamante. called sigma , differed having taller roofline, six-window glasshouse, window sashes, revised front fascia , rear styling. exported europe japan , formed basis of second generation magna/verada sedan, independently built in adelaide, south australia. luxury derivative, verada intended domestic consumption , primary export north america (hence longer bumper bars meet latter s more onerous crash standards).
wagon: wagon version of above-mentioned sedan, designed , manufactured exclusively mitsubishi australia. introduced in late 1992 1993 model year.

japan

the japanese diamante hardtop built 1990 until 1995 , available in front wheel drive (fwd) , wheel drive (awd). models featured 4ws (see mitsubishi awc details).

fwd versions featured independent suspension design macpherson strut @ front , multi-link in rear. version available range of engines listed below, five-speed manual in addition four-speed automatic transmission.

awd diamantes come in 3 models: 25v 4wd, 30r 4wd , flagship 30r-se 4wd. have macpherson strut front suspension double wishbones @ rear. both front , rear brake discs ventilated. awd diamante sits 5 mm (0.2 in) lower standard fwd diamante , has 70-liter fuel tank instead of fwd s 72-liter tank. available four-speed automatic.

this range of vehicles powered 3 v6 engines (of 2.0-, 2.5- , 3.0-liter capacity) of 6g7 family; awd available on models. perhaps contrary overseas image, mitsubishi @ time emphasized use of electronic gadgets in cars , diamante notable long list of such features. each engine choice obligated buyers in japan pay more annual road tax , level of standard , luxury equipment increased accordingly.

the next model in long diamante model range 25v. 25v same 25e, although identified different frame number (e-f15a) uses same 2.5-liter 6g73 v6 engine, outputting 129 kw (173 hp) @ 6000 rpm , 222 n·m (164 lb·ft) @ 4500 rpm. available in four-speed automatic transmission , 15-inch alloy wheels. in addition 20e equipment, 25v features speed sensitive power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel , ventilated rear brake discs maximum braking performance. optional rear wiper.

25v-se

the 25v-se top of range 2.5-liter diamante variant. lower variants 2.5-liter 6g73 v6 engine used. 25v upon based, available automatic. in addition 25v equipment, 25v-se features anti-lock braking system (abs), traction control system (tcs) , electric-powered seats. optionals rear wiper , leather interior. identified same e-f17a frame number 25v.

30v

the 30v base 3.0-liter fwd diamante base. comes 3.0-liter 6g72 v6 outputting 154 kw (207 hp) @ 6000 rpm , 270 n·m (199 lb·ft) @ 3000 rpm. available in automatic. fwd diamante wagon comes 3.0-liter 6g72 v6 outputting 118 kw (158 hp) @ 5000 rpm , 251 n·m (185 lb·ft) @ 4000 rpm. on top of 25v equipment, 30v features cruise control, remote central locking, six-speaker am/fm cassette player , tcs. leather interior , rear wiper remain optional. frame number of 30v e-f17a.

30r

the 30r middle of 3.0-liter fwd diamante range. uses 3.0-liter 6g72 v6 outputting 154 kw (207 hp) 6000 rpm , 270 n·m (199 lb·ft) @ 3000 rpm. higher spec diamantes available in automatic only. strangely 30r, sold ¥40,000 more 30v has of 30v except tcs , abs. addition front spoiler. 30r identified same e-f17a frame number.

30r-se

the 30r-se top of fwd diamante range. uses same 3.0-liter v6 30r/30v , again automatic only. 30r-se has equipment fitted 30v active suspension granting 10 mm (0.4 in) road height. externally, features front spoiler of 30r. frame number e-f17a.

25v 4wd

the 25v 4wd entry level diamante awd. has frame number of e-f25a.

the 25v comes 2.5-liter 6g73 v6 engine, outputting 129 kw (173 hp) @ 6000 rpm , 222 n·m (164 lb·ft) @ 4500 rpm. standard equipment includes speed sensing power steering, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, leather steering wheel, alloy wheels, remote central locking, climate control , 4 speaker am/fm radio cassette player. optional full leather interior , rear wiper.

30r-se 4wd

1993–1996 mitsubishi diamante wagon (canada)

the diamante sedan first sold in united states in spring 1991 model year 1992, replacing sigma. mitsubishi motors north america sourced diamante hardtop sedans japan , wagons, introduced in late 1992 model year 1993, australia. diamante available in 2 trim levels, base , ls, , fwd automatics. base model used 6g72 3.0-liter v6 rated @ 175 hp (130 kw), , shared diamante wagon. ls sedan got dual-cam version of 6g72, rated @ 202 hp (151 kw). standard equipment es included central locking, driver s airbag, power windows , power mirrors. optional abs, cruise control, alloys , sunroof. ls added alloy wheels, cruise control , abs standard equipment list. manual sunroof , leather optional.

with 1993 model year update, there minor equipment changes, , base diamante gained es suffix. station wagon became available during 1993.

when diamante updated in 1994, sedans received revised taillamps, , four-spoke steering wheel audio controls. models included passenger side airbag , cruise control standard. ls, manual sunroof deleted option list , replaced cd player, power sunroof , traction control. anti-lock brakes standard on ls , optional on es , wagon.

for 1995 model year, es sedan relegated fleet sales, leaving ls sedan , station wagon available general public. 1996, es , ls sedan remained , made available rental car companies.

australia

the australian-built first generation diamante manufactured in adelaide, south australia. marketed in domestic market verada, more luxurious version of more mainstream second generation australian-made magna, both based on japanese sigma. model 1 built wagon that, along sedan, intended both australian domestic , export markets.
