the adelaide football club formed on thursday 26 april 1860 @ globe inn hotel, rundle street john brodie spence chairing meeting. first in south australia, , played matches internally: north (of river torrens) v. south. j. b. spence led 1 side , john acraman other. first such match played on north parklands on saturday 28 april 1860. club had own game rules. first recorded match against rival club played in 1862 against modbury football club on strip of grass near modbury hotel. adelaide won game 2 goals nil. 2 teams met again next year, , game kept greatest spirit , feeling, , equally sides matched not goal obtained .
