1900 - 1931 several efforts made build mosque in london, including one, initiated lord headley, convert islam.


1937 project (nizamia mosque, later changed present name) funded nizam of hyderabad , foundation stone of mosque laid on friday, 4 june 1937, hh prince azam jah eldest son of mir osman ali khan last ruler of hyderabad state.


1939 lord lloyd of dolobran, (1879–1941), chairman of british council, works mosque committee, comprising various prominent muslims , ambassadors in london.

1947 mosque committee registered london central mosque trust limited trust corporation in september. @ time, 7 representatives 6 muslim countries acted trustees.


1954 - 1967 several designs considered mosque. there long protracted planning applications various authorities necessary planning approval not granted.


1969 open international competition held design of building. on 1 hundred designs submitted, both muslim , non-muslim applicants. design selected english architect frederick gibberd. design of main mosque building complex can divided 2 elements: main building consisting of 2 prayer halls , three-story wings including entrance hall, library, reading room, administration offices , minaret;


£2 million of funding donated construction of icc majesty king faisal bin abdul aziz al-saud of saudi arabia. further donation provided sheikh zayed bin sultan al nahyan ruler of abu dhabi , president of united arab emirates.


1974 construction work john laing & son began year main mosque building complex, comprising men s , ladies main prayer halls, library, administrative block , residential quarters.


1977 work completed in july total cost of £6.5 million. first director of islamic centre raja of mahmudabad. special fund paid new educational & administrative wing completed in 1994. donated king of saudi arabia fahd bin abdul aziz.
