las vegas home las vegas 51s of pacific coast league (aaa) play @ cashman field. 51 s aaa affiliate of new york mets , professional team plays in city of las vegas. on october 11, 2017, las vegas 51s got approval build las vegas ballpark in summerlin, nevada. however, mets announced end of affiliation las vegas 51s effective after 2018 season.

the las vegas mobsters , las vegas sc, , las vegas city fc of united premier soccer league begun play in mountain division of western conference in 2014. first year played on unlv campus before moving various high schools in las vegas valley 2015 season.

since cashman field (the sports facility city owns) opened in 1983, 3 other cities in aaa baseball (pawtucket, tacoma , portland) have opened new ballparks. little has been done improve cashman since opened.


after toilets backed during 2015 game, pcl president branch barrett rickey wrote letter las vegas convention , visitors authority warn upgrades needed keep cashman @ approaching triple-a standards require spending tens of millions of dollars. rickey added wouldn t enough, many experts inside , outside las vegas believed cashman @ end of useful life.


because lags far behind other facilities in aaa baseball there danger las vegas lose place in minor league baseball s top tier (which happened portland after 2010 season, after plans new park fell through). dissatisfaction facilities, along lack of plan improve situation, cited major reason los angeles dodgers did not renew working agreement las vegas 51s after expired in 2008. dodgers resumed had been long-term affiliation albuquerque, new ballpark opened in 2003. 51s plain construct , open las vegas ballpark in summerlin 2019.

af2, second-tier arena football league, announced on june 24 arenacup, league championship game, played in las vegas @ orleans arena on august 22, 2009. af2 president jerry kurz stated league had serious plans put team in las vegas play @ orleans arena. said had no qualms given problems las vegas gladiators of arena football league had in city. turned out last season of af2 due demise of parent league, original arena football league.


in 2005–06, city hosted arenabowl xix , arenabowl xx @ thomas & mack center, afl s first neutral-site title games. after 2 years of disappointing attendance game moved.
