the station appeared happy valley station in previous proposals, , listed in alignment c in 2005 proposal, which, if chosen, have been built interchange island line @ wan chai. however, route via wan chai dismissed in favour of direct route ocean park admiralty, though option en route happy valley offered. construction of station subject of negotiations between mtr corporation , hong kong jockey club, suggested renaming station racecourse station, used existing station on east rail line.


in january 2009, government decided not construct station after considering economic efficiency, construction time, nuisance residents , interruption traffic.
