the city of huamantla in east of state of tlaxcala, 45 km state capital . main entrance city marked monumento al toro (bull monument), bronze sculpture architect diódoro rodríguez anaya. dedicated regions’ bull raising , fighting tradition.

the city centered on main plaza, called parque juárez (juarez park), contains gardens , kiosk beginning of 20th century. blocks around conserve many historic buildings colonial period through porfirio diáz era, simple facades , iron-railed balconies. reason , celebrations related our lady of charity in august, city has been named “pueblo mágico.”

the main colonial era constructions parish of san luis obispo , former monastery of same name, both of begun in 16th century , named after huamantla’s patron saint, louis of toulouse . monastery complex built between 1567 , 1585 , has number of elements, focused on main church simple facade. above door there niche containing image of saint anthony , on either side of this, there coats of arms of order. bell tower has 2 levels , solomonic columns. inside church, there chapel dedicated christ figure called señor del desposo. main altar of church churrigueresque neoclassical altars on sides. side, there large open chapel 5 arches supported tuscan columns doric capitals. cloister area has been remodeled various times original elements such tuscan columns remain. third order chapel contains complexes oldest oil paintings , baroque main altar.

the san luis obispo parish church built of light stone, contrasting dark grey main portal. in portal there 6 niches filled same number of statues made alabaster. has single bell tower , small bell-gable . inside, main altar baroque image of louise of toulouse. there salomonic altar dedicated virgin mary , 1 jesus nazarene , oil paintings colonial period, including 1 of virgin of guadalupe miguel cabrera . facing park municipal palace, in neoclassical style 2 floors, both balconies, framed cornices, style common huamantla. has simple main entrance above decorative element including mexican coat of arms, clock , small bell. inside, there mural desiderio hernández xochitiotzin, reproduction of huamantla codex , photographic collection.

modern mexican puppetry traced huamantla, rosete aranda family began traveling puppet show in 1850, lasted on century. today, city home rosete aranda national puppet museum, 1 of kind in latin america, located in former mansion facing main square. contains 8 main halls containing puppets, sets , other paraphernalia family, other puppeteers mexico , puppets other countries such germany, spain, france, italy, india , indonesia. has collection of pre hispanic dolls/puppets movable parts, including nearby cacaxtla .

the huamantla cultural center located next puppet museum, occupying former priest’s residence constructed between 18th , 19th centuries. has 8 halls dedicated various temporary exhibits , workshops.

the museo taurino (bullfighting museum) located in building 18th century, next city’s bullring. museum opened in 1981 after remodeling , today hosts collection of event posters 20th century, models of various bullrings in mexico, matador outfits , photographs.
