Original concept Line 5 Eglinton



line 5 eglinton conceived eglinton crosstown lrt, partially underground light rail line, announced in 2007 toronto mayor david miller , ttc chair adam giambrone. part of transit city plan, included implementation of 6 other light rail lines across toronto. original version of line have run pearson airport along silver dart drive convair drive. line have turned southwest, bridge on highway 401 reach commerce boulevard on other side, run south reach eglinton avenue , east end of mississauga transitway. rest of line run east along eglinton avenue, including portion along proposed eglinton west subway line have been built. line traverse city, connecting line 1 yonge–university, line 2 bloor–danforth, , line 3 scarborough.


there 43 stops planned eglinton crosstown lrt, 13 of underground. surface stops spaced on average 500 metres (550 yd) apart , underground stations 850 m apart on average, constructing numerous underground stops costly. average speed 28 kilometres per hour (17 mph), compared existing bus routes along eglinton have average speed of 16 18 km/h (9.9 11.2 mph). line terminate @ kennedy station east in scarborough meet line 2 bloor–danforth, proposed scarborough malvern lrt , stouffville go train line. expected cost $4.6 billion. result of provincial funding cuts, construction of line divided 2 phases: phase 1 end @ jane street, , phase 2 terminate had been planned @ pearson airport.
