in 2012 old dominion hired chris finwood head coach. finwood came odu western kentucky led hilltoppers 2 conference titles , ncaa tournament appearances. first season resulted in 19 wins , last place in caa. finwood led monarchs caa conference usa in 2014 , made them instantly competitive in new league. 2013 team ineligible caa tournament because of planned move , went on win 30 games , finished in 3rd place in conference. finwood s third team @ odu continued improve on previous year winning 6 more games 2013 team. on april 29, 2014 monarchs defeated #1 ranked team , eventual college world series runner-up virginia score of 8-1 @ harbor park in norfolk, virginia. victory odu , finwood s first ever victory on #1 team in country. season concluded after deep run in conference tournament earned them bid 2014 ncaa tournament went 0-2. in 3 years finwood led monarchs last place in caa back-to-back 30-win seasons, , earned at-large bid ncaa tournament 3 seed in columbia, south carolina regional. in 6 seasons has won 30+ games @ helm of odu s program.


in 2015 odu swept nationally ranked uva making 3 straight on cavaliers, 2 of wins when uva ranked #1. finwood has led team 27+ wins in 3 of 4 seasons @ odu after 19 win campaign in first season , 2 straight c-usa conference tournament berths. despite 30 win season , 15-12 in conference, odu ineligible 2013 caa conference tournament have been third seed.
