in may 2006 city recreation , parks committee held public hearing on proposed rules restrict unleashed dogs orchard area of park. hearing drew strong opposition , proposal tabled. spurred leash controversy, friends of cranbury park formed month both support keeping many areas open unleashed dogs , improve park in general. in july 2006 group planted more 50 perennials, including butterfly , rose-of-sharon bushes, create butterfly garden in park.
