career
1970s

davies first performed professionally 16-year-old musician lucy fields jug band, led lindsay campbell around 1971. band secured recording contract m7 records, company changed hands shortly thereafter , band s album never released. in 1974, davies performed handel s concerto oboe in eb major strathfield symphony orchestra, conducted richard gill. in july 1975 davies released first single, “leading lady” on rca label.


in late 1977, davies working part-time cleaner @ squash court managed bass player keith welsh s mother. davies , welch got form band flowers. in 1979, davies re-established old acquaintance cameron allan, director of sydney-based independent label regular records, , flowers signed label in 1980. debut album icehouse containing song can t myself reached top five, making highest-selling debut album in australia. take advantage of success, band changed name icehouse in 1981. name taken cold flat davies lived in , strange building across road populated itinerant people.


1980s

in 1983, davies icehouse went on european tour david bowie.


in 1985, davies , fellow icehouse member bob kretschmer worked on ballet boxes sydney dance company. in addition scoring ballet, co-wrote script graeme murphy. boxes opened @ sydney opera house in december, , davies performed in acting/singing/dancing role sold-out crowds 3 weeks straight.

1990s

2000s

in 2005, davies scored mini-series incredible journey of mary bryant. on 6 november 2006, won 2006 apra/agsc screen music award in best music mini-series or telemovie category. 15 june 2008, davies judge on 7 network tv series battle of choirs; band icehouse performed great southern land on grand final show won university of newcastle chamber choir.
