the main features of warrumbungle mountains series of huge jagged outcrops in circular pattern, surrounded hilly bush , woodland forest. dykes, plugs , domes common , made trachyte. grand high tops section of range volcanic remnants clustered. these vents , rocky formations named - belougery spire, belougery split rock, crater bluff, bluff mountain, breadknife , mount exmouth. pyroclastic rock found in area. breadknife, straight wall of jagged rock 100 metres (330 ft) high, particularly rare. there extensive network of 9 walking tracks across central peaks.

towards southeast broad belt of basalt outcrops extends towards liverpool range. near chalk mountain outcrops of diatomite. outer stretches of volcano made of hawaiite , mugearite.
