the aztec calendar composed of 2 separate cycles—one of 260 days called tonalpohualli (day count) , 1 of 365 days called xiuhpohualli (year count).


the 365-day xiuhpohualli consisted of 18 twenty-day months (or veintenas), plus additional 5 days @ end of year. descriptions of aztec calendar state included leap day allowed calendar cycle remain aligned same agrarian cycles year after year. other descriptions state leap year unknown aztecs , correlation of months astronomical year change on time.


in case, descriptions of spanish conquistadors witnessed celebration of toxcatl in 1521 know in year feast fell in our month of may.
