the m98 (1938) further modification of m90 uniform. single breasted tunic (98 shiki-gun-i) had stand , fall collar, 5 buttons ran down front , two, or more usually, 4 internal pockets scalloped flaps (depending on manufacturer). long trousers or pantaloons (bousyo-ko ) worn standard along puttees (kya-han) , tapes. except mounted troops (who wore breeches , high leather boots) wore uniform horsehide, pigskin or leather ankle-boots. boots (amiage-gutu) had either hobnailed hard leather sole metal heel j-cleat or rubber sole rubber cleats. when off duty, soldiers wear tabis. collarless wool or cotton white, grey or light green under shirt (bousho jyu-han) worn under tunic. had 1 or 2 patch breast pockets buttoned flaps, had single pocket on left breast. khaki cotton shirt stand , fall collar , 2 breast pockets worn in warm climates, or without tunic. flat-topped peaked cap replaced cloth field cap (sen-bou) short leather or (more usually) cloth peak. produced in khaki later produced in various shades of green ranging grey-green dark green. cap more of peaked sidecap , worn neck flap (bou-tare), hooked bottom sun protection, made 4 cloth rectangles.
