roundball rock theme music nbc used game telecasts 1990 2002. theme became synonymous nba basketball, because used @ height of michael jordan era (and height of nba s popularity). written john tesh, roundball rock went through several slight variations (including 2 different versions used in 2001 going commercial breaks, , separate rendition nbc s wnba telecasts) remained virtually same twelve years of existence.


the theme sampled nelly in song heart of champion , used in both nba on nbc video game , movie mike. both conan o brien , craig kilborn paid comedic tributes theme when nba on nbc ended, , tesh asked theme o brien when appeared on show in late 2004. during same episode of late night conan o brien, theme played on footage of recent pacers–pistons brawl.


nbc brought theme coverage of basketball during 2008 summer olympics , again 2016 summer olympics.
