in 2010, martin started year off strong , won pole 52nd daytona 500.


martin ran in bud shootout, caught in big 1 during green-white-checker finish , finished 21st. martin started daytona 500 well, leading majority of first 30 laps, after being stuck in middle line of racing pack, dropped down low 33rd , had pick way through rest of day, finishing 12th.


martin ran @ california , las vegas, scoring back-to-back 4th-place finishes, , advancing high 3rd in points standings, 49 points out of lead. however, less successful in next 3 races. got caught in wrecks @ both atlanta , bristol, finishing 33rd , 35th, respectively. @ martinsville, martin leading field , running top-5 during of day, until flat tire relegated him 21st. during stretch of bad luck, martin fell 3rd 17th in points standings, 214 points behind leader.


the next 3 races of 2010 season saw martin rally back. 4th-place finish @ phoenix, 6th-place finish @ texas, , 5th-place finish @ talladega, martin jumped 17th in points standings 6th, 169 points behind leader.


martin s bad luck struck again in following 3 races, struggled handle on race cars. 25th-place finish @ richmond, 16th-place finish @ darlington, , 15th-place finish @ dover caused martin fall 11th in points standings, 293 points behind leader.


in sprint all-star race, qualifying rained out. field set in order drivers drew. martin started 15th , finished first 50-lap segment in 15th. used two-tire pit stop gain position , finished second 20-lap segment in 3rd. held position in third 20-lap segment , finish third. martin lost spot during mandatory 4-tire pit stop before start of final 10-lap shootout $1 million. however, field took green, martin hit car , crashed, finishing 17th.


a week later, martin returned charlotte motor speedway coca-cola 600. martin qualified 11th , struggled of race handling issues. however, during caution 20 laps go, of field pitted, , martin opted stay out. restarted 2nd , finished race in 4th.


mark martin had season best finish of second @ 2010 tums fast relief 500. martin crashed 275 laps go, managed work way 15 spots bent fenders , no rear end.
